Fiesta Juniors Roodenburg and Van de Craats promoted to BMW M2 CS Racing Cup Benelux!

We’ve all seen that the Ford Fiesta Sprint Cup is a perfect starting point for advancing to higher classes of motor sports. The newest batch of drivers from Bas Koeten Racing also takes the step forward: after a very succesfull Fiesta season, Sen Roodenburg and Gianni van de Craats are promoted to the BMW M2 CS Racing Cup in 2023! Both drivers are also added to the KNAF Talent Junior Academy, an acknowledgment of their potential!

Their predecessors als started as a Fiesta junior: in 2018 Loek Hartog grew successfully into the Porsche Carrera Cup and even Porsche Supercup. Daan Pijl can be found in a Lamborghini Huracan GT3. Dante and Jop Rappange drive a GT4 an GT3 on a European level, after driving in the Fiesta Sprint Cup in 2018-2020. In 2020 Colin Caresani became overall Fiesta champion, in 2021 BMW M2 champion and in 2022 vice-champion in the DTM Trophy.

Roodenburg made his debut in 2022 at Bas Koeten Racing in the Ford Fiesta Sprint Cup, after mutiple years in karting. During events 1 and 2, he had to endure his teammates Van Soelen and Van der Craats in front of him. But during the third event in Spa-Francorchamps, Roodenburg struck with his first overall win! Scoring constantly in all the other events, Roodenburg collected the cup win among the juniors during the Final Races in the Dutch championship. “Based on the results of last season, we are eager to make the next step. The BMW M2 Cup ticks all the boxes. I hope the upcoming season will learn me a lot and together with Gianni and Bas Koeten Racing, I am confident I will grow further as a driver.”

Van de Craats already had a year of driving in a Fiesta under his belt. During the first event at Circuit Zandvoort, he already claimed overall victory. The results mid-season were a little more capricious, varying between a place onthe podium and not finishing. But ending strong during the last weekend on TT Circuit Assen. “A year that started fantastiscally, unfortunately ended in a year with up and dowsn. But winning an overall podium in the last race, I look forward to the upcoming year!”

Jelle Koeten: “In the last year, we coached Gianni and Sen in the same we worked with their predecessors that already have gone a long way. Their motvation is really strong and they are aware of the facts that they can learn a lot. Together with the drivers and their supporters, we’ve evaluated  last year and we all had the same feeling: they’ve grown so much and are ready for the next step! The BMW M2 CS Racing Cup is the best choice in that regard: a Benelux championship, with a trip to Red Bull Ring, a strong car and racing in a cup format. They are going to compete with experienced drivers, so 2023 will be a year full of learning! With our experience, which includes two titles in a row for Colin Caresani in 2021 and Maxime Oosten in 2022, combined with the KNAF schooling program, the bar is set quite high. We are happy to accept the challenge with them!”

Late November, both drivers were selected for that KNAF Talent Junior Academy. Together with a group of 6 talented drivers, they will follo a schooling program offered by the KNAF, with aiming to accelerate their learning process. The eight will follow a joint and individual training and coaching course that helps them to prepare to the next steps in their carreer.

“Instead of the drivers, it’s the team on the podium!”

In the end of October, the annual NHN Business Awards have been awarded to the most appealing companies in the upper region of North-Holland. Bas Koeten from Bas Koeten Racing received the prize in the category ‘MKB Klein’ (small businesses). With that award, he is crowned as one of the most inspiring entrepreneurs of the region: a well-deserved title!

For Bas Koeten Racing, the acknowledgement is extra special. Bas Koeten: ‘On track, we win prizes and set foot on the podium at the end of the race time and time again. But now, top speed wasn’t important. Instead, how efficiently we work together, the transitioning to sustainable energy whitin the organisation, and how we contribute to that are far more important. To be judged as a whole ánd being award with prizes is fantastic!’

We scored highest in the categories ‘Innovation’ and ‘Entrepreneurship’. The big steps we made into sustainability where noticed by the judges. Furthermore, the passion and professionality in the racing industry and the ‘one-of-a-kind-ness’ of the company stood out.

Two Porsches on the grid during Formula 1 weekend in Spa

Upcoming weekend, the Grand Prix of Belgium will take place at the legendary circuit of Spa-Francorchamps. Bas Koeten Racing will take part in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup with two cars, support race of Formula 1. Two young talents, Loek Hartog and Maxime Oosten, are going to man the 485 HP-strong Porsche 991 GT3 Cup cars. The team and drivers managed to get hold of two highly coveted wild cards for this race.

Behind the steering wheels are Loek Hartog (17 years old, photo 1), who got a taste of world class event last year. He is accompanied by Maxime Oosten (16 years old, photo 2) who debuts as youngets Dutchman ever to participate in this championship. The event starts with a free practice on friday followed by the qualifying on saturday, and the race will take place on sunday afternoon, just before the Formula 1 cars will start their engines.

‘Very promising’

Bas Koeten: ‘Last year we made our debut with Loek in the Porsche Supercup, this year we double the bet. Past weekend we trained with both drivers on the Circuit of Zolder and results were promising. It will not be easy, competing with highly experienced drivers in the fast GT cars. But we, drivers ánd team, are extremely eager to perform! Cup racing, fighting with other competitors with the same weapons, is the best there is. In terms of cup racing, Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup is the highest achievable in international motorsports. A privilige for us to compete in!’

Youngest Dutchman ever

With 16 years and 40 weeks, Maxime Oosten is the youngest Dutchmen ever in the race. An remarkable achievement, considering Maxime rode his first meters on a circuit when he was fourteen years old. Nevertheless: it looks like he has got a feeling for motorsports. With only one season’s competition experience, he already managed to win several races such as Mazda MX5 Cup (Jr.) and the Supercar Challenge. On the go-kart track he belonged to the top drivers as well. Maxime: ‘I am excited to participate! This is an amazing event and I know the competition will be intens with all the pro-drivers. I expect I need to fight for what I am worth, but that is motorsports!’

All Supercup races in 2021?

Loek Hartog is only a year older than Maxime. With three years old, he already drove a go-kart. Exactly ten years later, he got his racing lisence. Thanks to his previous karting experiences, he managed to get off a flying start in car racing and is often seen on one of the steps of the podium. Participating in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup last year, also at Spa-Francorchamps, made him wanting more. Loek: ‘My goal is to drive all Supercup races in 2021, and compete in the top 5. I am preparing myself for that. I look forward to the predicted rain in the ever so changing Belgium Ardennes.’

Follow the race live through several media, or follow Bas Koeten Racing on Facebook.

Participating in two Porsche cups in 2020!

Leading up to the new racing season, Bas Koeten Racing announces an expansion of their activities in the different Porsche championships. Starting in April, Bas Barenbrug will participate in the Porsche Sprint Challenge Benelux! A brand new championship which will be decided in an exciting six laps only. Simultaneously, the team will continue to take part in the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux, where there is room for one more driver.

Jelle Koeten: “The organising party of the Porsche Sprint Challenge Benelux is the same as for the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux. Thanks to good experiences with them, we decided to start in the Gentlemen Championschop as wel.. Bas Barenbrug will join us with his 2019 Porsche 991 GT3 Cup GEN-II, a mighty machine we love working with. Last year he drove the Carrera Cup which was all about sprinting, but in the coming year he will partake in the Sprint Challenge that features two sprints ánd an hour of racing. The championships consists of two divisions: the first drive the 991 or 997 GT3 Cup cars, the second the popular Caymans.”

17 starts each season

In the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux the 17-year-old Loek Hartog will hunt down the title, after being the best rookie following the experienced Max van Splunteren en Dylan Derdaele.

Bas Koeten: “Nest to Loek Hartog we have one seat available for an ambitious driver who wants compete in the quickest brand cup of the Benelux. A big plus compared to last year is that there aren’t two but three sprint races per weekend! That counts for 17 starts in total, a wish come true for a lot of drivers and teams.”

Just like last year, a couple of the events will be part of the support program for the popular DTM Championship, which guarantees a high number of spectators and a very professional setting.

An exciting Porsche Supercup debut for Loek Hartog

Last weekend, Loek Hartog made his debut in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup on the circuit of Spa-Francorchamps. The 16-year-old, driving for Bas Koeten Racing in collaboration with Molitor Racing Systems, showed his potential in an extremely strong field.

Loek Hartog: “The free practices went well! After 20 minutes I could find an connection with the leaders, resulting in a P12, after driving on P5 for quite some time. The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup is one of the strongest car racing competitions in the world. Thirthy-two identical cars appeared at the start during this Formula 1 weekend . A top 10 finish is therefore pretty satisfying.”

Unfortunately, the qualifying on Saturday did not went as well as the training on Friday. Hartog: “In the first qualifying I managed to start with quick sector times, but regrettably I outbraked in the last chicane and missed a laptime which could have gotten me in the top 10.”

Bas Koeten: “In the remainder of the session, Loek did not manage to improve his times. That resulted in a difficult starting position for the race. Finding grip was not as easy as the day before, because conditions changed significantly due to F2 and F3 rubber on track. We hoped to be in the top 10, but had to settle with P22 in a field of 32 cars.”

Sunday: race day. Loek drove a stable race, overtaking others one-by-one. After a good start, the Porsche Junior Recruit fought his way up to the 18th position. Loek: “Seventeen cars finished in front of me, with at least ten of them being professional races drivers, and fourteen cars finished behind me. But still it is safe to say, the race did not go as I hoped and planned. In the first round the carcass of my right front tyre got damaged, which made it a bit more difficult. De car was not turning well in left-hand corners, which cost me a lot of speed. But I really enjoyed all the fighting on track and all the fans off the track! If I look at my performance, it sure is the debut I hoped for. I am confident my time in the Supercup will come. It was unique chance to experience the Supercup during the F1 weekend at Spa and I learned a lot.”

The coming three weeks will be all about the last to races in the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux. Two race weekends are on the agenda: the DTM Weekend at Nürburgring and the Blancpain GT Weekend in Barcelona. Loek is currently on P3, still having the title within his reach.

Hartog concludes: “Thanks to my partners Korton, Hogenhouck and Porsche Centrum Amsterdam, I was able to compete in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. Gräper Automotive, Grand Prix Radio, The Society Shop, Slade Shipping and Autosport Insurance also helped with this partaking. I also would like to thank the team of Bas Koeten Racing who has made a huge contribution in helping me set my first steps in the international motorsport world. I would like to thank each of them in making this debut possible.”

Loek Hartog makes his debut in the Porsche Supercup this coming F1 weekend!

This weekend the 16-year-old Loek Hartog debuts in the prestigious Porsche Supercup during the Formula 1 weekend at Spa-Francorchamps! The talent started this year by launching a Porsche campaign by competing in the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux with support of Bas Koeten Racing. After four events and quite a lot of podiums, Loek steps up the game by competing with the beste Porsche drivers of the world. He is the youngest driver ever in the 25-year old Porsche Supercup competition.

A dream come true

Loek Hartog: “I can hardly fathom that this is already happening this weekend! Competing in the Porsche Supercup is a dream I have been chasing for quite some time, and it is coming true right now! I will be driving my own car that I also drive in the Porsche Carrera Cup season. The support and running of the car will be done by my team Bas Koeten Racing in close cooperation with the experienced Supercup team MRS. On top of that, Spa-Francorchamps is familiar, because we have been testing and competing there earlier this year. All the pieces of the puzzle are coming together!’

‘Well deserved!’

Bas Koeten: “Since his debut in motor sports, Loek Hartog cannot be stopped! Thanks to his eye on the price, he has come really far. In the beginning of the season, he received the titel Porsche Junior Recruit and the fact that he makes his Supercup debut during the F1 event at the most beautiful circuit in the world is well deserved. We support Loek with full dedication and together with our colleagues of MRS we aim for the best results. Thanks go out to partners Korton, Hogenhouck and Porsche Centrum Amsterdam, who also play a part in making this possible and letting Loek perform the best way he can.”

Free practice is planned for friday, followed by a Quali of 30 minutes on the saturday afternoon. The race is sunday from 12:30 – 13:00h, right before the F1 Grand Prix.

Participation in Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux doubled with Kay van Berlo

After a very successfull debut for the 16-year old Loek Hartog in the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux, Bas Koeten Racing expands its presence in this championship. Starting with the Whitsun Races on Circuit Zandvoort, Kay van Berlo joins the team with a brend new Porsche 991 GT3 Cup car.

Eighteen year old Kay van Berlo from Veghel, started in karting and switched to car racing in 2018. During the winter, he drove the Le Mans Series in a LMP3, and for the remainder of the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux season, he gets in the quick Porsche.

‘A lot of champagne!’

The performances of Porsches and race cars in general are familiar for Van Berlo: his father also owns a 991 GT3 Cup car and his younger brother Glenn drives Formula 4. Kay: ‘I am excited to join Bas Koeten Racing and the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux! They have proven themselves by performing very well in the start of the season. I look forward to working with the team and opening a lot of bottles of champagne.’

Bas Koeten: ‘The comparison with playing a game of roulette is not as far fetched as it sounds: we double our bets! Next to the new Porsche of Loek Hartog, we add Kay van Berlo to our line-up. Loek his learning curve is a steep one, we expect to see the same with Kay. But having said that, his past racing experience is a good predictor of positive results! Many years of karting, LMP3 and with his family he also participated with a 991 GT3 Cup. Porsche Motorsport was able to quickly supply us a new car, that makes that there are three Porsches in our workshop: two prepared for sprint races, and one for endurance racing. Together with Kay and Loek, we work hard to grow in GT classes, first with a focus on Porsche Carrera Cup and after that on Porsche Supercup.’

The next two events where Kay van Berlo and Loek Hartog will compete are the Whitsun Races on Circuit Zandvoort (7-9th of June), followed by DTM at TT Circuit Assen (19-21st of July).
